FAQ

Q: How do I start the process to commission a piece?
A: A consultation is required and will be included as part of the commission cost—this determines the size, and color palette, includes a preliminary sketch (digital or hand sketch), and must be approved before work begins.

Q: What style or design of paintings do you do?
A: Primarily focused on grid-based work, with minimal color. But, color is an option, and so are various abstract expressionist styles — and we can discuss. See my instagram @tylerwalseth (browse in grid mode) for examples of work

Q: How do you determine the composition? Can I provide art direction along the way?
A: This is one part co-creation, usually in the consultation meeting where we determine style, composition, any personal symbolism or meanings, and color. After the consultation, there is no art direction,  and rarely input or involvement. From time to time, I will have questions for you along the way, but reserve the right of total creative freedom based on alignment to get started

Q: I found a piece of yours I like, and I want something similiar. How do we get started?
A: Take a screenshot of the exact image, and include in your inquiry email for reference.

Q: Which mediums do you work on and can I choose?
A: Primarily premium wood panels, but occasionally heavyweight canvas or archival paper. We can discuss medium in consultation, but I reserve the right to choose the medium for optimal execution of the piece.

Q: How do you work with Interior Designers or/and design firms?
A: Industry-standard discounts are extended and invested in happily.

Q: How long does a commission take to create?
A: Completely impossible to say until we discuss the size, materials, and intracacies of the piece. Sometimes pieces take just weeks, other times up to 6 months.

Q: How much are your commissions?
A: The price varies considerably. The only advanced information I can provide on cost is that size, labor, and intricate detail are factors in determining price. Eg. – A small, highly detailed piece may be about same cost or more than a larger, simple piece.

Q: What’s included in the cost of a commission?
A: Time for consultation and to create the piece, supplies*, and labor. (*In certain cases, there are additional supply costs—usually for extra large wood panels, and shipping from the supplier.)

Q: Is shipping available and how much
A: Yes, global shipping is available, and packing materials are required in addition to shipping costs to ensure piece is not damaged. Must be paid in advance, prior to shipping.

Q: I determined after the consultation that the piece is out of my price range, will you accept multiple payments?
A: No. All commissions are paid in full.

Q: When do I pay? Can I have a refund?
A: All commissions must be paid in full before work begins and is non-refundable. No exceptions.

Q: Why are all commissions paid in full in advance?
A: I spend a lot time on art, and this guarantees I am compensated for that time, dedicated to your piece. It’s also a basic guarantee that you pay me, and I’m obligated to deliver your piece.

Q: Do you ever trade services or non-monetary items of value for artwork?
A: Yes, but rarely. Save details for consultation call.
